The conversion of Alcaidesa Golf into La Hacienda by Millenium at Fitur 2022
Millenium Hospitality presented this Wednesday at the Campo de Gibraltar stand at Fitur, the International Tourism Fair, its La Hacienda project, the new brand into which it has converted Alcaidesa Golf, one of the golf courses that already enjoyed greater recognition on the golf circuit between the municipalities of San Roque and La Línea under the pillars of sustainability, exclusivity and health security.
The company, specialized in the luxury hotel sector in Spain and Portugal, has carried out a successful transformation of what is the only links golf course in southern Europe, in a project destined to become a flagship of this sport. After a profound reform, the La Hacienda golf course is scheduled to open in June 2022.
Javier Illán, president of Millenium Hospitality, presented the reform of the golf course, which represents the first phase of a La Hacienda project, which will include both the facilities of this practice and a luxury resort, which will occupy the plots that Millenium Hospitality acquired in 2019.
The complex, which aspires to become a benchmark for quality tourism in southern Europe, is located in the municipality of San Roque, on the beachfront and will have a 150-room hotel, villas and the renovated golf course.
Javier Illán detailed the development project and underlined that it is “a very relevant commitment for the company, in a strategic location due to its tourism potential and the absence of high-quality modern hotel complexes that customers and operators demand. With La Hacienda, we wanted to respond to this demand and that it will also perfectly complement Millenium's portfolio of emblematic assets. In short, we want to be one of the best golf resorts on the European scene”.
“In fact, there is currently a huge pent-up demand for golf vacations and in the last months of 2021 we have already seen record bookings where international travel restrictions have been lifted,” remarks Illán.
Improved facilities and customer service
The company has worked to convert Alcaidesa Links, which has 18 holes par 72, and which was inaugurated in 1992, into a modern and sustainable golf course, renewing the machinery, the fleet of buggies, as well as implementing a new operations to optimize customer service. In addition, during the reform, special emphasis has been placed on health security after Covid.
In fact, the International Golf Tourism Association (IAGTO) has recognized the work that was carried out during the months of the pandemic, awarding it the IAGTO Outstanding Service Award 2021 within the Golf Resort category. . A recognition of the flexibility, the efforts that have been made and the service offered to operators and customers during the time of the pandemic, as well as for having created a safe environment in its facilities by implementing all the measures against Covid-19.
The orography of the grounds of La Hacienda is made up of gentle slopes that descend towards the sea, ending in a beautiful beach, which creates a frontage of almost 2 km, which is why a large part of its holes border the beach. One of the peculiarities of the course that most impresses the visitor is its spectacular views of the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and Africa.
